Astonished by the narrative of the book, I could not put it down halfway through. Mattis proved to be a strong leader with great observation, planning, and adaptation. Knowing the US Navy’s reputation of fierce tactic, high-tech weapons, and unlimited resources his default plan is to attack aggressively and explosively, in a way that the enemy doesn’t have the time to re-treat and re-build confidence. However, in Washington’s political turmoil his method is not always appreciated.
